HOW TO SOLVE PAPER-1 UPSC CAPF AC

In the paper-1 of UPSC CAPF AC, main focus of aspirants should be to first clear the cutoffs, and then to secure as much marks as they can, so as to secure their name into the final list. It doesn't  depend on the method or technique you have followed to tick a question. Main purpose and ultimate goal is to mark a question ''Right''.

There are techniques  which  can  be used to mark a question even if you have very less knowledge about the topic. It is a calculated risk. If you feel yourself at the boundary line (Near to  expected cutoff) in the exam hall, these  techniques will definitely help you in the exam.

ELIMINATION METHOD- The essence here is to solve UPSC CAPF AC question paper in 4 stages – based on the number of answer choices you are able to eliminate. Don’t start solving questions at a stretch from 1 to 100, but rather use multiple rounds.

ROUND-1  (100% SURE QUESTIONS)

  • In round 1,finish off all the questions whose answers you are 100% sure of.
  • If you have eliminated 3 options out of 4, you are left with only one option, which is obviously the correct answer.
  • So in round 1, go for only questions in which you have eliminated 3 options.
  • Ideally, you should get at least 45 questions with 100% surety, if you have studied reasonably well.

ROUND-2 (50% SURE QUESTIONS)

  • In round 2, solve questions which are 50% sure.
  • In other words, if you have eliminated 2 options out of 4, you are left with only 2 options, out of which 1 would be the correct answer.
  • So in round 2, go for only questions in which you have eliminated 2 options.
  • These questions have 50% chance of being correct. Go for it, without any second thought.
  • Ideally, you should get at least 35-40 questions with 50% surety, if you have studied reasonably well.
  • Suppose, for a question, you know that the correct answer is either (a) or (b). If your thinking inclines more towards (a), then mark with a pencil lightly ‘1’ next to (a). And mark ‘2’ next to (b). If you think you are dwelling more on this question, leave it after marking ‘1’ and ‘2’.
  • Now, come to the questions where you marked ‘1’ and ‘2’ beside them. If you don’t have sufficient time, mark the final answer as the choice beside which you marked ‘1’. Don’t forget to erase ‘2’. And if you have the time, think and analyse your answer choice and mark the answer. Remember you are not wildly guessing in this case, you are taking a calculated risk.

ROUND-3 (25% SURE QUESTIONS)

  • In round 3, solve questions which are 33% sure (33% probability of getting right).
  • In other words, if you have eliminated 1 wrong option out of 4, you are left with only 3 options, out of which 1 would be the correct answer.
  • So in round 3, go for only questions in which you have eliminated 1 option.
  • make a single choice out of 3, elimination other two. making it an obvious choice.

ROUND 4-QUESTIONS WHICH YOU HAVE NO IDEA

  • In round 4, solve questions which you have no idea! But this also means you are 25% sure (25% probability of getting right).
  • In other words, if you have eliminated 0 wrong option out of 4, you are left with 4 options, out of which 1 would be the correct answer.
  • So in round 4, go for only questions in which you have eliminated 0 option.
  • There may be around 10 questions which will be very difficult to answer, however hard you study.
  • If the number of questions attempted after the 3rd round is less than 80, it’s not a bad strategy to take some additional risk and go for a 4th round to answer questions which you are unsure about all the 4 answer options.
  • If you can correctly answer 3/10 questions of which you have no idea about, you will end up with a positive mark.

After all this, if you still have time left, re-read all those questions whose answers you had no idea about. If you get an idea, employ steps as described. If you don’t get any brainwave as to the right answer, your last resort is making a guess. But ensure that the number of questions for which you are sure of the answer far exceeds the number of questions that you don’t know. This is a qualifying paper and you can take a bit of a chance.

Remember:-

  • Nothing beats correct preparation for the UPSC CAPF AC exams. If you prepare with a clear plan and purpose, with the right material, you need not worry too much.
  • You should attempt atleast 100 questions in UPSC CAPF AC paper-1.
  • Mark your answers properly. Make sure to erase any pencil marks properly.
  • Use common sense . Just read every question with an open mind. Think it like a normal Indian/human and apply the logic.
  • Interlink the topics. After reading a question, don’t limit yourself that this is the question from a particular topic say Forests in Geography which I have not read and that’s why I should not attempt it.
